Carole Rome has gotten engaged to Charlie Crist. The 38-year-old president of Franco American Novelty Co. met the 51-year-old Florida governor in September 2007 in New York, but their relationship has advanced at a rapid pace since their first meeting less than a year ago. Crist proposed on one bended knee with a blue sapphire and diamond ring at his condo in St. Petersburg, Florida. Not an easy feat after recent knee surgery.

Professionally, Carole Rome has been successful, running an almost 100 year-old family business that specializes in Halloween costumes with her mom and sister. After graduating with a degree in accounting, she first worked for Arthur Andersen in their financial services division, but later switched to a job in real estate with The Corcoran Group before returning to steer the family business. She has two daughters with ex-husband Todd Rome, the CEO of Blue Star Jets, while Crist, whose first marriage ended in 1980, has yet to have children.

Charlie Crist is rumored to be on the short-list for John McCain's running mate. However, he has courted controversy for possibly being the father of a girl give up for adoption after a one-night stand with Rebecca O'Dell Townsend in 1988.
