AOL Humbled

Well, heads have finally rolled at AOL for the release of 650,000 customers' search data. AOL's CTO Maureen Govern resigned from the company along with a reseacher and that employee's supervisor in the technology research department. This embarassment was definitely ill-timed given AOL's plans to transition to a free content system. Its subscriber base has fallen from 26.7 million in fall 2002 to 17.7 million today so it clearly needs some way to rejuvenate its user base and revitalize ad revenue.
