ScatterChat: A Secure IM Client

ScatterChat is an instant messaging client that is based on Gaim, but includes a high level of security. It allows encrypted chatting so that totalitarian governments and crackers can't eavesdrop on your conversation. Tor is also integrated and adds another level of security by making it hard to identify the participants in the conversation.

You can set up an encryption key easily and choose the IM network you want to use like AIM or MSN. You have to first set up an account at one of the IM services though.

A very helpful guide to using ScatterChat is located here. It's essential reading if you don't know much about cryptography. Just follow the guide, and set up will be a breeze.
