Democracy Asks You to Broadcast Yourself

In all the buzz about YouTube, the open source Democracy TV platform has fallen by the wayside. I hadn't heard about it until recently, but Democracy is different from YouTube and other video sharing sites by being primarily a downloadable program. You can browse different channels as you would on a TV, and the video quality is usually very high since videos are temporarily downloaded before playing. It's basically an aggregator for videos.
As its name indicates, the purpose of Democracy is to give everyone a voice on the digital airwaves, which unlike traditional airwaves, have no permit or physical restrictions. There's helpful information available if you're looking to become a broadcaster.

For viewers, there are many channels available with content ranging from news videocasts to clips from popular TV shows. Some popular channels include French Maid TV, Cartoon Network's Adult Swim, and Geek Brief TV. There's also more serious stuff available.

With the Democracy player, you can play almost any video, search YouTube, Google Video, and Yahoo Video, auto-download new videos, subscribe to video RSS feeds, and even use it as a BitTorrent client. It's like the ultimate video watching platform. On the downside, running it might put a strain on your computer's memory and bandwidth.
