5 Gmail Power Tips

You've learned all the Gmail keyboard shortcuts, but you still want to save some extra time or play around with the settings. With Gmail, there are always new ways to tweak the settings or exploit new features. The following tips are ones I use regularly (OK, not the Web Clips one, but it is fun to play with once). My personal favorite is #5 since it allows me to catch up on my email without leaving my RSS reader.

1. If you want to send an email to another Gmail user, you only have to send the part before @gmail.com. Use stopbitacle instead of stopbitacle@gmail.com.

2. Tired of seeing a CNN or Forbes headline at the top of your email? Change your Web Clips.

To add a new feed to your Web Clips:

1. Go to Settings and click on the Web Clips tab.
2. Enter the feed URL into the "Search by topic or URL:" box.
3. Click Search. Once you see your feed, click Add.

3. To select a group of consecutive emails all at once, click the box next to the first email, hold down the Shift key, and click the box next to the last email in the group.

4. Want to send or receive prohibited executable files? The easiest way is to rename then so pinky.exe could be renamed pinky.jpg. Gmail scans Zip files so you can't use that method to slip by.

5. Read Gmail in your RSS reader. Enter "https://mail.google.com/gmail/feed/atom" into the URL field. You'll be prompted for your username and password. Once it's set up, new messages will start to show up.
